Wheatgrass - The Facts

You have probably heard friends chatting about Wheatgrass at some point during the last few years. Maybe it is in a juice bar or from a friend or member of the family already taking some of the many various types of wheatgrass but if you are like the majority of people, you may still not understand wheatgrass or the natural healing power wheatgrass contains.
Wheat grass is basically the young blades of grass from wheatgrain. When the grain is planted it begins to develop shoots within two or three days. A few days later the shoots grow into blades of juicy green grass. In as little as 8-10 days the wheat grass can be ripe for processing, Its woth noting at this stage that although the wheat grass already contains high levels of vitamins it has not had the time required to develop complex carbohydrates often found in over-wintered wheatgrass.
As soon as the wheatgrass is ready to be harvested it is usually processed into various forms, which often include wheatgrass powder (Typically made by drying and crushing the wheat grass blades into an extremely fine powder) wheatgrass capsules (simply the powdered wheatgrass filled into capsules for easy digestion) wheatgrass tablets (again usually the powder cold pressed into tablet form) and wheatgrass juice. (The wheatgrass leaves are put through a specialist wheatgrass juicer which crushes the juice out of the wheatgrass leaving essential nutrients intact.)
Most forms of wheat grass harness an abundance of health boosting properties, with a large range of minerals, vitamins, enzymes and amino acids. It also contains at least 70% chlorophyll, which is very similar in its DNA make up to blood. This means our bodies can utilise the nutritional content in wheat grass extemely easily.
Wheat grass has been used for decades but it has only recently reached the UK and you can now find it online and at most juice bars. Wheatgrass has been used for many medical ailments and can be used topically for external skin complaints such as eczema and acne. When taken internally it can help detoxify the blood stream replenishing it with essential nutrients that are needed for optimum health.
