Go faster with a new air filter?

Thursday, November 27th, 2008 | Places | No Comments

When car makers design air filters they are concerned primarily about ensuring the air reaching the engine is perfectly clean, and that air induction is quiet. Well, that is not quite true, because on high-powered models, they do allow some noise to build up with speed – because people like this noise.

These days, there is a big market in air filter kits and inductions kits for sporty cars like Subarus and Mazda 3s. Of course, if you buy a real muslce car like a Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X or Ford Focus ST, you don’t need these kits.

Most of the companies selling these air filter kits To be sure, it depends on the car and the induction kit. Most air filter kits consist of a pipe from the engine to a conical or cylindrical filter with no enclosure – this results in less air resistance. And that is what these filters are all about - less resistance.

Actually, an air filter kit of this type should give a little more power. My guess is about 2-3 per cent. We actually got a gain of this type by altering the shape of the air intake mouth of a filter housing before it went into production.

Need to get cool air to the filter

The difficulty with a filter of this type is that it is in the engine room, which is hot. When you drive fast it gets hot. When it gets hot, the air temperature increases, too, which reduces power. To overcome this, you want cold air. You can take an aluminium pipe from the filter housing to the front of the engine bay, where there is quite a flow of cool air. This keeps the air cool.

Be careful: make sure that when you take the pipe out behind the grille, ensure that the tube has a bend near the front end, so the entry is high but sideways. This way you will avoid getting insects into your air filter in warm weather.

The ideal arrangement is an air pipe from the front to a BMC carbon dynamic airbox that houses the filter to keep it cool also. This way you can get the best out of your {air intake system|air induction kit|engine.

Colon Cleanse My Way To Better Health

Wednesday, November 26th, 2008 | Places | No Comments

Recently I discovered the idea of cleaning the colon and started searching for a site that has good information about how to colon cleanse and maybe some product information. Fortunately, I came across a great site that has both; a bunch of articles on cleansing the colon and even has product information.

One article that got my attention is one that talks about different colon cleanser options. I never realized it was more complicated than just taking a laxative, which by the way is not recommended. There is more to cleaning the colon than just going to bathroom more frequently. That and possibly end up hooked on laxatives in the long run.

So in my quest to learn about colon cleansing and colon cleansers I found out quite a bit and avoided making a poor choice in how to go about the whole procedure. The first being the laxative thing I already cited. Another is to keep an eye out for pills that are really just laxatives in camouflage. The last thing I need is to think I’m are doing something sound and really just developing a laxative habit.

I see all the product makers hype weight loss as a side effect of a cleansing the colon. That’s not my first concern but it is a welcome side effect. Who wouldn’t appreciate a little extra weight loss in America today? If I can get healthier and lose a little weight at the same time, I’m all for it.

Here’s to greater health, a little weight loss and hoping that this cleaning the colon thing doesn’t leave me running to the bathroom all day.

Obligatory medical disclaimer: speak to a medical professional before you dive into anything. Be smart, your health is too important to mess around with.

Cutting your Trade Show Exhibit Cost

Tuesday, November 25th, 2008 | Places | No Comments

Many trade show exhibitors are searching out various ways of cutting their exhibit cost. They feel that they have to attend the trade show after they are very lucrative to most exhibitors. Some companies attend Conventions to show their new product and or market their company service. It’s still the best way to get your product or service in front of a large crown of potential buyers. The drawback is that trade shows are very costly. In that said I would like to point out some cost cutting ideas.

1- In choosing your booth location never get more real estate that you can handle, some exhibitors get the same to give the impression that they are a larger company than what they are. Only purchase booth space that you feel would demonstrate your product or service. If your booth space is large remember you have to fill that area with enough exhibit components more restate means more exhibit components and more components mean more cost on shipping and drayage.

2- When designing or choosing a design for your trade show booth location choose a design that reflects your company images…this is very important, first impressions are lasting. In an effort to keep your budget down make sure that your booth is built with the lightest material needed to properly display your product or image. A great deal of exhibitors are now using stretched fabric structures, light weight panel systems or aluminum frame , the reason for this is to keep their drayage cost down. Drayage: is the cost that is charged by the convention contactor to move your booth properties in and out of the convention hall. Many exhibitors forget to budget for this, make sure to budget for this, some conventions drayage cost are extremely high.

3- Another advantage of having your trade show booth well built out of light weight material is the ease of setting up. This cost can also be very high depending on the convention in which you attend , the faster your booth get set up the lower your overall cost , If one man can handle a component instead of two or three surely you would cut your exhibit set up cost.

Neem shopping? How to find quality neem oil products

Tuesday, November 25th, 2008 | Places | No Comments

Have you been looking to buy high quality neem but did not know where to start? Neem products are slowly becoming more widely available, but as of now are mostly only found on the web or in health shops and other out of the way places. These products are not easy to find, so it is easy to grab the first thing you come across just because it has the word neem on the label. Here are some quick tips that will help you make an informed decision before you stock up on an inferior product-

Find Out How The Oil Was Extracted There are a couple of methods that are used to extract the neem oil from the neem tree seeds. As you have probably figured out, not all extraction process produce the same quality oil. The method that produces the best neem oil is called cold pressing. Cold pressing neem oil is the best, because most active compounds remain intact. It is also the oldest extracting process. It utilizes a mechanical device that squeezes the oil out of the seeds. Always opt for cold pressed neem oil where possible.

Another method uses hot water vapor and extreme temperatures. Though this technique retrieves a larger quantity of oil from the neem seeds than the cold pressing technique, a lot of the active compounds in the neem oil are destroyed by the extreme temperatures.

This next process is the most preferred one that most manufacturers use because it yields the most oil. The technique is called solvent extraction, and in most cases hexane (white gasoline) is the solvent of choice. Even though this process extracts nearly all of the oil from the seeds, the solvents render useless nearly all of the desireable compounds in the neem. To add to this and the fact that the chemical being used is poisonous, it is preferable that you look for products that do not contain neem oil that was extracted using them.

Be Sure The Products Do Not Contain Additives Almost all cosmetics and bath/shower products today contain added substances to “enhance” how the product works. However, some of these chemicals may likely cause many side effects. Two of the most common chemicals that may be in a lot of bath bath products are Lauryl Sulfates (SLS) and Parabens. SLS’s are mostly used as foam producers, because they are not very costly and work very well. A lot of inexpensive neem shampoo products have many of these additives too. However, these chemicals are known to have some side effects. The US Food and Drug Administration asks developers of these products not to use them.

Parabens are often used for preserving, and though there has been no substantial proof that they are potentially dangerous, they are becoming more and more controversial. Some organizations feel they should be avoided for the sake of precaution.

Buy Only Products That Contain Certified Organic Ingredients Quite obviously, organic ingredients are better than ones that are not. These ingredients are all natural, and have not been exposed to man-made chemicals, synthetic fertilizers, or other un-natural substances. Look for labels that list certified organic ingredients. If a manufacturer uses organic ingredients, they will always state this selling point somewhere on the packaging.

Choosing Effective Basement Waterproofing Solutions

Tuesday, November 25th, 2008 | Places | No Comments

Before choosing to apply a basement waterproofing sealer from your basement waterproofing Michigan home center or, the more dramatic approach, digging up outside your home to install drain tiles, do a little homework to figure out what is causing your problem. For instance, painting your basement walls with a waterproofing paint, is not going to matter much when you have a rain gutter downspout dumping enormous volumes of water directly against your foundation. With a common-sense approach, you can fix the things that need fixing and end up with better results.

Investigate

Go outside during the next rain storm to see what is happening. Look at you rain gutters. Is water spilling over the sides? Check out where your down spouts empty to. Are they spilling out right next to your basement? Is surface water being directed toward your home. Are there low spots next to your home where water is ponding? Do you have a stream or creek nearby that may be flooding your property?

You should write down what you find during your outside inspection to help you decide later, what is the best solution for your problem.

Also consider a battery backup sump pump motor to help prevent water on the floor.

Grading

If you determined that surface water is directed towards your home or that water is laying in low spots next to your home, you will have to consider doing some outside landscaping to re-contour the property around your home.

At least several inches of your foundation should be visible above ground level. Your yard should then slope slightly away from your home to direct surface water away. If water is laying in puddles, or deeper next to your home, no basement waterproofing product or method is going to work to its full potential.

Re-grading your yard is probably a job for a professional landscaper. Besides repairing your basement water problem, you must also consider preserving the value of your home or, improving the value from a professional job well done. If you have other landscaping needs or dreams, now is a good time to consider adding them to your project. You could have a flooded basement insurance claim.

Rain Gutters

If your outside inspection revealed that your rain gutters are spilling over, they are probably clogged with leaves or other debris. Get your rain gutters cleaned out so they can direct your roof water away from your basement.

If your downspouts are dumping water next to your home, add extension pipes to direct the water at least 10 feet away. You should also consider extending underground drain pipes out to the street or down over a slope away from your home. Successful basement waterproofing is a multi-phased approach.

Humidity

If your basement problem is only a dampness issue, this requires a completely different approach. Humidity problems are common to basements because they are underground and cooler than upstairs areas. Humidity and condensation are attracted to the basement because of the cooler temperatures. The word condensation refers to the principle that warmer air volumes shrink as they enter the colder basement. When the air volume shrinks, the moisture in that air collects together and forms droplets of water. These droplets form on cold water pipes, cold basement floors and walls and are absorbed into porous concrete, carpets and furniture. This constant dampness is what helps feed unpleasant odors in the basement.

Get a good dehumidifier to mechanically remove this extra humidity from your basement. Make sure to get a deicer feature to prevent it from freezing up in the cooler lower level. A drain hose is another good feature. It will free you from having to empty the collection pan several times a day.

In Closing

Prevention is a key factor in any basement waterproofing project. The preventative tips above are all projects that will help improve the value of your home and your property. Identify your real problem before deciding on a solution.

Save Money With a Geothermal Heating System

Tuesday, November 25th, 2008 | Places | No Comments

Whether it’s cold again and time for the dreaded heating bill, or summer with the high cooling costs.  It seems that no matter which fossil fuel you choose, prices always seem to skyrocket during the peak usage months.  One year, heating oil goes sky-high.  The next year propane seems to be outrageously expensive.  Another year propane is cost prohibitive. And what have I just read?  Electric rates to rise another 15%? One way to try to beat the high cost of cooling or heating your home is with geothermal technology.  Geothermal heat pumps use the Earth’s natural energy to warm or cool your home.  Geothermal Heating Cost Savings can be as much as 30% especially in the North America where ground heat can be used to heat a majority of the homes in the cooler climates.

A friend of ours is environmentally conscious and of the threatpossibility of global warming, our explotation of fossil fuels, and our use on foreign oil.  So they decided to help by upgrading their heater.  They got rid of their old oil burning furnace that heated their home and instead replaced it with a Geothermal Home Heating unit.  This unit uses the Earth’s constant source of energy to both heat their home in the winter, and cool it in the summer.  It uses scarce amounts electricity to operate, and consumes no other fossil fuels.  With this geothermal system in their home, they are saving the Earth’s natural resources while doing something beneficial for the environment.
