Lets face it, shopping for an electric guitar or any guitar for that matter is a tedious and time consuming process, and this is especially true for beginner’s electric guitar. What makes one guitar different from another? Is a guitar that costs $1000 better than one that is $500 or$100?
You only get what you pay for.
It can be a daunting task especially for beginners looking at all the different electric guitar models trying to make a decision as to what to buy. And when you add amps, effects, and everything else involved you end up saying to yourself, “Maybe I don’t need all that stuff.”
Well now, what do I REALLY need.
Let me just say for the record that I’m far from an equipment expert. There are plenty of “gear heads” out there that get something new every month. These guys always have the latest and greatest in guitars, but I find these guys can hardly play a lick because they’re too busy buying all their gear!! I’ve always been a “just let me play” kind of guy. But it’s always nice to have friends like this so you can go over to their place and try out all their cool stuff.
This page has the beginner in mind so if you’ve been playing for a while you’re probably going to think “well, duh!” But my goal here is to discuss what you need and your different options. Please keep in mind that everything below is solely my opinion.
What kind of beginner electric guitar should you buy and how much should you spend?
If you’re a beginner just starting I don’t recommend spending any more that $500, if that much. You can usually find something to learn on for $2-300 or even cheaper at a flea market or online. You don’t need anything more than that, especially if you lose interest. I’ve only gone through 3 guitars in my life, the first being a cheap Dean that I got for Christmas out of a Sears catalog. I then got an Ibanez 560 Frank Gambale model that I ordered from Suncoast music for Christmas when I was 16 or 17. I had that one for a long time up until 4 years ago when I went guitar shopping for the first time and got a custom made Ibanez S-Series that listed for $1500. By this time, I was advanced enough that I justified paying that much for something good.
The point is don’t spend too much money right now unless you are seriously interested in the instrument. I would focus more on playing and getting better than getting all the different gears.
Its tough to make good recommendations but I’ve always been partial to Ibanez. But, there are a lot of good guitars and companies out there. The best thing I can recommend anybody looking for an electric guitar is to go to the store and play different models. This is the ONLY way you can figure out what works best for YOU. Then you can start haggling the sales clerk at the store about the price.
Obviously, buying a beginner electric guitars online will give you significant discounts as well as special deals. You can find lots of great bargains here. Here are some great starter packages. This is something that you have to go to the store and try for yourself before you make a decision. I have a Crate GT-200 that I played my Ibanez through at the store when I went shopping that day 4 years ago. For amps you most definitely get what you pay for. Mesa Boogie are the best amps I’ve heard, but I never could afford them. Depending on your budget, try to make the best decision based on quality vs. your personal budget. Again you will get significant discounts online, but you will definitely want to hear how your electric guitar sounds with the amp you’re looking at.
What else do you need?
If you have a beginner electric guitar and amplifier you’ll need a few other things. Some of them are optional…and mostly a matter of preference.
The most commonly accepted method of choosing a low cost electric guitar is to find an instrument with good quality wood, and at least reasonable workmanship. Guitar manufacturers tend to cut corners with cheaper guitars, by using cheaper pick-ups, and hardware, but these are all upgradeable parts.
Where is My Government Tax Rebate Check?

There could be many reasons why you either received a smaller than expected rebate check or you did not receive one at all. Here is a list of possibilities for the missing payment:
- Your address was incorrect. This can be easily updated through the IRS and another check will be issued.
- Delinquent taxes, child support, or student loans. This stimulus payment will first be applied to these accounts and you will receive a letter stating how the funds were applied.
- You did not file a return. Itʼs not too late; you may file a 2008 return and receive a rebate recovery credit.
- Your bank account changed. If you changed your bank account then your check should have been mailed. Be sure to keep your address updated with the IRS.
Under normal circumstances you will receive your rebate check in the same manner that you receive your annual tax return. If you normally receive your return in the mail then you can expect your rebate check in the mail as well. If you have requested your return by direct deposit then this payment should also be direct deposited. There is one exception to this.
If you have recently used tax preparation software then your check will be mailed automatically and will not be direct deposited. This will happen if you had your tax preparation fees automatically deducted from your return. The stimulus payment calendar went according to the last two digits of your social security number and all stimulus payments for 2008 should have already been completed.
Virgin Shoot for Glamour Photography

Well if I had a penny for every offer to hold my camera bag, reflector or tripod, I wouldn’t be writing this article.
As a developing freelance photographer over the last 2 years the author had worked in marketing for 16 years now. Producing everything from brochures, to web sites, to videos and conferences.
The corporate straight jacket required an escapologist manoeuvre if some sanity was to be retained. So, the interest in photography, which had always been there, brought the author from buying in professionals, to retraining as one.
In photographing many types of subjects, seeing what appealed and looking for a style of my own - which is still being sort, I did think that glamour photography might appeal as an extension to my love of fashion, so with an open mind I gave it a go. But how do you approach photographing glamour models? Well this is where all the testosterone has to be left firmly outside of the studio, else that’s where you’ll be very quickly. I attended a small workshop style shoot with 3 other photographers at Blue Moon studios on Dudley, West Midlands. I’ll admit that I was a little nervous of what they day might bring.
We had plenty of alternatives to work with. The studio offered a wide range of photography services meaning it had various themed areas or “sets” and of course provided a professional model. Blue louvered blinds gave scope for a more creative lighting set up as well.
The day was a greater challenge than I imagined - I found my creativity drying up and was struggling to come up with concepts that worked. I prefer much more subtle and low key lighting effects than the modern “all white” look. Less was certainly more - but not when it came to clothes, the shots I felt worked better with a hint of what you couldn’t see. You certainly have to be clear in your mind as to what you want and how to talk to models. It’s hard not to be put off at the end of a sequence of images when your model comes running over to pinch the camera off you and check the shots on the back without a stick on .
It’s good to work to a theme and to build a set a group of shots that tell a story or show a sequence. Also pictures that show the process of an action rather than just the end result - it makes for more feeling and adds anticipation. Personally I like to try and get a bit of attitude from the girl into the shots - something that shows their personality.
As for equipment , there was the trusty Nikon DSLR mainly used with an 18-70mm lens. Also some shots were taken from the mezzanine of one of the sets using a 70-200mm f2.8 to give a different perspective. Studio flash was one or two Bowens Esprit 500w flash heads with radio triggers and soft boxes. The lighting was kept at a low level - firstly in relation to the model and secondly in terms of power, so that the mood ambiance was conveyed in the pictures. Most of these shots were taken using one flash head, soft box and all the windows darkened using the blinds, this being the preferred set up for the professional photographer. Mono light head power was set to one quarter for starters then reduced to suit.
As for camera body settings I rely on my favourite starting position - 160 sec and f8 - camera on Manual. Then the rest is done by eye and a quick check of the histogram. With low key lighting and the model wearing partly black and seated on a black sofa I expected the histogram to be skewed to the left.
I was looking for something alternative to the typical cliche topless shots and eventually found the great contrast in black and colour with low key lighting.
The only alternative to this was the portrait shot with the models hair over one eye, I absolutely love this shot, which is now on my web site and was cropped out of a wider three quarter shot.
All in all a good day and a great experience, on reflection it wasn’t as difficult as I thought it would be. So would I do it again? Yes it’s a challenging area to work in and a great test of your creativity.

Now, before you start thinking that I’m full of myself, let me explain what this is really all about.
In a blog post I made, I talked about the need for your site to actually be related to the links that point to it. One example I gave was the cutest baby in the world search phrase, versus the miserable failure search phrase.
In the past, searching for “miserable failure” brought up a completely unrelated web page. Due to Google’s new algorithm that does away with the “Google bomb” or “link bomb” effect, that is no longer the case.
My post discussed why this doesn’t work anymore.
In one of the comments on that post, Alex Newell suggested that I setup a site and try to get it to rank for the phrase “cutest baby in the world”, using the site to test various linking strategies and methods, etc.
Thus my cutest baby in the world site was born.
What I am attempting to prove is that by following the directions Google gives in its Webmaster Guidelines, you can rank a site for a keyword phrase using 100% “white hat” methods.
In the pages of the site you will see outlined the methods I am using, and the progress I am making in implementing each of the steps from Google’s guidelines.
As of right now, the site is ranked #1 in Google for “coolest baby on the planet”, but I also want to be ranked #1 for “coolest baby on the planet”, so I’m still working on it.

I own a lot of land, just on the edge of Boulder Colorado, twelve acres, and on it I have my home, my two horses, and just about everything I have. My wife Naomi, my oldest kid Catherine age eleven, my son Nathan age four, and our dog Peyton, he’s around eight.
Not to say I possess them, (laughing) but we have been here for just about five years now. We moved here so I could write more, and we also wanted another child, hence Nathan. So, since I’ve been here, I have written exactly one hundred and five pages, gone through about eight paper shredder ratings, and frustrated my publisher to no end.
Shannon, my pub rep, has been over here over a ten times, she always brings the family gifts, and she knows I will have broke more paper shredders, so she’ll bring me another one. It’s almost laughable, no it is laughable. I know the authentic story is supposed to be in this manuscript somewhere, but I’ll be if I can find it. What I should do is purchase stock in some company that fabricates fellowes document shredders.
I keep burning out the motors or something, I don’t know, all I can say is that, I have not been able to use computers yet, and typing was the way it had to be. It’s a difficult story, but to give you an idea, I had been employed for a newspaper from about 1986, to the end of 19890, when there was a fire. The fire took our first child Micheal, the fire was caused by a surge on the lines, coming from our worn out systems. Needless to say, I was, and still am traumatized by the whole thing. I know it seems ridiculous, but for some reason I can’t get through it.
