When you are starting out as an adult, one of the problems you’ll come up against is your lack of a credit history. Up to this point, you probably asked your mom and dad for funds. But now that you’re all grown up, it’s time to pay your own way. The complicated part is, in order to obtain credit, you need to have an established credit history. Credit history is a record of all your financial activities, from your utility bills, loans, and even down to every delayed payment or money that you haven’t paid back. Banks and other creditors use this to study the risk you pose as a borrower.
Don’t fool yourself for one second that putting together a credit history is an easy or quick thing to do. The vital thing is that you start your credit history the right way from the beginning with these steps:
1. Get a credit card.
- These days, there are credit cards targeted specifically for students, and if you handle this account well, this can be an influential thing for your credit history. One way is by getting a “secured” credit card, also known as a prepaid card, which gives you an account limited by the sum that you deposited into it. Your credit limit can go up or down monthly depending on how much you pay back into the account after spending the credit. This is a excellent step in building up a credit history as long as you settle your monthly “bill” on time, every time.
Tip: Keep the credit balance low when you start out. Make it a charge that you can easily cover with your monthly income.
2. Open a Bank Account.
- While you must be 18 years old and over in order to get your own credit card, there is no such thing as being too young to start saving your money. Try to make it a habit to set aside at least ten percent of any money you get—allowances, gifts, or salary—and tucking it away in a savings account. Check with your local bank to find out their requirements for opening one.
3. Get a utility bill in your name.
- Your payment history, which tells banks and other financial institutions if you are the type to pay your bills monthly, is an important part of your overall credit history. So, apart from your monthly secured credit card bill, try to get a utility bill in your name, such as for your cellphone.
4. Look for a Co-signer.
- A co-signer is someone who can help you get loans or other lines of credit, as they will basically secure the transaction by assuring the bank that they will cover the loan in case you default on the loan. This person must have a good credit history, and is preferably someone close, such as your parents. However, don’t take this as a reason not to pay for the loan, as not only will your credit history take a hit when you do so, but your co-signer’s as well.

Home staging, which recreates the look of a model home, has been shown to improve sales - both in speed and price, but sometimes the thought of staging your entire home as you try to live there as well can be a bit daunting.
If the idea of house staging for a visit from a prospective buyer or to have photographs made is too much, then consider picking out the room that is your home’s biggest asset and staging only that room.
Perhaps your living room is a family’s entertainment retreat with a big screen TV, fireplace, and the furnishings to make you comfortable. In addition to a thorough cleaning, put away the clutter and family mementoes, and only leave out one remote. Even if you prefer the quiet of Lanai or Molokai, you have to take a trip here just to say you have been.
The last island Hawaii has to offer you is Kauai, known as the “Garden Island” due to it’s abundance of natural beauty. Kauai features magnificent waterfalls, Waimea Canyon called my Mark Twain the “Grand Canyon of the Pacific”, the Napali Coast where 1,000 foot cliffs drop straight into the ocean and many of Hawaii’s most famous beaches where you can surf or sit around and enjoy the warm climate and wonderful sun.

Truth is that there is about an 90% failure rate in new businesses on the internet as well as in the real brick and mortar world. One of the biggest reasons for such a failure rate on the internet is because of the learning curve. What I mean is that you and I need to discipline ourselves to working hard and not giving up even if we have tried many times in the past and failed. There are many wrong ways to build a business but there are very few right ways in order to become successful in our daily attempts.
Let us not reinvent the wheel instead we should learn from those that have made it and are successful. Instead of starting from zero we need to build on others foundations that work. I don’t mind failing at times when I know in the long run I will be successful in my attempts but if I really don’t know what I’m doing then I lose focus in the big picture and have to start all over again. With knowledge comes freedom to pursue your dreams of obtaining a comfortable living and a sustainable future.

The best business plan comes from those that have been in the business for years not months with a lot of experience to relate to.
